LizLaz Responds to Virat Kohli’s ‘Like’ on Her Photo: ‘I Feel Sorry for Him’
By Suthar Jayprakash
Virat Kohli is once again making headlines — this time for liking a photo posted by German model and musician LizLaz. The incident quickly went viral over the weekend, drawing comparisons to Kohli’s similar ‘like’ controversy involving actress Avneet Kaur in 2025. Now, LizLaz has finally spoken out about the unexpected attention.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, LizLaz shared her reaction to the sudden fame. “It felt unreal. I woke up and suddenly I was trending everywhere,” she said. “I didn’t even realize when he liked the photo — I found out through the news. So many people sent me the articles through DMs. Everyone seemed really excited.”
Even though Kohli later unliked the picture, LizLaz admitted she didn’t feel upset. Instead, she sympathized with him. “Honestly, I felt a little sorry for him,” she said. “I was happy that he liked it, but when he removed it, I just thought — how did this even become such a big story? I’m sure that wasn’t his intention. Still, I’m grateful and I appreciate the gesture.”
A clip from an old interview of LizLaz has also resurfaced online, where she openly called herself a Kohli fan. She explained that her admiration began during her first trip to India last year. What was meant to be a two-week stay with a friend in Bengaluru turned into a months-long journey across the country — including Goa, Mysuru, Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad.
“One of my closest friends is from Bengaluru, so I just wanted to visit them. I thought I’d stay for two weeks, but I loved it so much that I ended up staying for months,” she recalled. “That trip introduced me to cricket. I was born in South Africa and raised in Germany, where football is the main sport. I had never watched cricket before.”
Watching the IPL with her local friends made her a Royal Challengers Bengaluru supporter — and naturally, a fan of Virat Kohli. “It was during the IPL season last year. Watching with my Bengaluru friends was contagious. I became an RCB fan, and if you support RCB, Kohli is the most exciting player to watch. He’s just brilliant. So I was genuinely happy when he liked my photo.”
Since the incident went viral, LizLaz has received multiple professional inquiries. “I’ve been getting a lot of offers,” she said. “But I’m taking my time. Music and vlogging are my passions. If music opportunities come up in India, I’d definitely consider them. Maybe I’ll visit again soon — I wish I were there for the IPL this season.”
